As the Plant Breeding global lead, director you will....
spearhead our efforts in genetic improvement and innovation within the coffee plant species. You will lead a team of researchers and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing coffee plant genetics for improved yield, quality, resilience, and sustainability.
_Summary of key responsibilities:_
+ Develop and execute a global coffee breeding strategy.
+ Lead a team of plant breeders and research scientists in the development and implementation of breeding programs focused on coffee plant improvement.
+ Utilize advanced genetic and genomic technologies to identify and leverage desirable traits in coffee plants, such as disease resistance, flavor profiles, yield potential, and climate resilience.
+ Collaborate with internal and external partners, including coffee farmers, agronomists, research institutions, and governmental agencies, to foster collaborative research and knowledge exchange.
+ Establish and maintain field trials and experimental plots across different coffee-growing regions to evaluate and validate the performance of new coffee varieties under diverse environmental conditions.
+ Stay abreast of advancements in plant breeding, genetics, and biotechnology to incorporate cutting-edge practices into our breeding programs.
+ Communicate research findings, project updates, and breeding successes to internal stakeholders, industry partners, and the wider scientific community through publications, presentations, and other channels.
_We'd love to hear from people with:_
+ PhD or equivalent advanced degree in plant breeding, genetics, agronomy, or related field.
+ Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in plant breeding, with a focus on perennial crops preferably in the coffee sector.
+ Proven track record of leading successful plant breeding programs, preferably in a global context.
+ Expertise in molecular biology, genomics, and biotechnology applied to plant breeding.
+ Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor a diverse team of scientists and researchers.
+ Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources efficiently, and meet deadlines.
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
+ Cross-functional collaboration and leadership: Experience leading and /or facilitating cross-functional or organizational groups. Ability to build a level of trust and respect amongst peer group and recognizes the importance of solid relationships.
+ Strong leadership and team-building skills, with demonstrated experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.
+ Change management: Ability to work in a changing environment. Ability to deal with ambiguity.
+ Knowledge of coffee agronomy, cultivation practices, and the challenges facing coffee farmers worldwide.
+ Experience working in multicultural environments.
+ Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
+ Fluent in Spanish
