Job Description



Salary Range $100,000 - $122,000 USD per year

At Fairmont Grand Del Mar, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our Colleagues, guests and visitors is an integral part of our operation. The Director of Security is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Security Department. You are attentive, efficient and committed, and your leadership will ensure your property remains a safe, enjoyable workplace and travel destination. You will train all colleagues and officers on all aspects of security and safety

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the daily operation of the Security Department ensuring the overall safety of the guests, employees and property premises and all process and procedures are strictly adhered to.
  • Conduct regular operational meetings to review, monitor, adjust and upgrade the performance of the department as a whole, explaining new directions, policies, and procedures at the same time. 
  • Design and implement a strategic plan for the Security department, every year as well as attend and participate in other required hotel meetings and advise senior leadership and operational managers on latest security threats / concerns internally, locally, or in the region.
  • Implement emergency procedures and crisis management scenarios with Leadership team, formalizing and keeping current action plans.
  • Collaborate with operational managers regarding security concerns, procedures and to be proactive in preventing adverse incidents at the Hotel.
  • Maintain a Hotel logbook on incidents, complaints etc. and refer them, if required to the appropriate department for follow up action.
  • Investigate and report any violations to law/property policy, occurrences of accidents, complaints, criminal activity and crisis situations.
  • Conduct weekly, documented inspections of the hotel listing any safety or security infractions and ensuring these are corrected by the time of the next walkthrough.
  • Assist guests regarding hotel facilities in an informative and helpful way. 
  • Plan and execute strategy for security at special events or for V.I.P.s. 
  • Maintain all Business Continuity Plan (BCP) binders/documents and ensure periodical audits are done to check the readiness of the team. 
  • Comply with all Corporate loss prevention safety and security management guidelines and procedures. 
  • Be first contact for emergency agencies such as, but not limited to, police department or fire department.
  • Monitor CCTV in house video surveillance equipment and diligently monitor building video surveillance.
  • Work closely with Engineering team on Fire Panel operation and maintenance. 
  • Oversee key audits, key allocation and approval. 
  • Assist with training contracted Security Officers and deploying security staff appropriately.
  • Champion safe work practices, assisting with implementing colleague security procedures, awareness programs, preventive measures and provide safety and security training to Heartists including: fire life safety, hotel evacuation, CPR and Workplace Violence. 
  • Facilitate security and workplace health and safety orientation for new colleagues. 
  • Periodically conducting employee baggage and locker inspections. 
  • Complete full quarterly security audits of property. Manage elevator access and floor access protocols for both front and back of house elevator systems.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of extensive hotel security management experience in a luxury hotel or resort.
  • Highly responsible and reliable with the ability to lead by example, believe in a strong team culture and set the scene for high performance.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications required.
  • Certification in CPR First Aid required. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
