Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.

Role Purpose

  • The Quality/Equipment Engineer fulfills a critical role in ensuring manufacturing lines are capable of producing industry-leading products as per design intent and business needs.
  • Understanding design requirements and supplier capabilities, the Quality/Equipment Engineer interfaces with both CDT Design and our suppliers to ensure designs are 1) Capable of being fabricated and 2) Suppliers have the ability to fabricate components to our Quality standards.
  • The Quality/Equipment Engineer will be critical to our success with continually developing and improving our suppliers to ensure they have the understanding and capability to produce products that meet Design intent for performance and life.
  • Ultimately, this engineer will play a key role to ensure Melting/Forming equipment designs are fabricated, shipped, and installed in the field with zero rework requirements.
  • This particular role has a primary focus on equipment made from steel (carbon and stainless) as well as specialty alloys and their use in Melting/Forming. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Initially focus on understanding Melting/Forming processes and the function of the equipment required to support these processes
  • Work with design engineers to institute Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) across critical components in all platforms
  • Create Critical to Quality (CTQ) inspection plans to validate components meet specifications prior to being shipped 
  • Collaborate with design engineers and suppliers to improve fabrication efficiencies while ensuring equipment meets requirements for performance and life 
  • If issues arise in the field, pull together key representatives from critical groups to resolve the problem in the short term as well as collaborating to determine a long-term solution
  • Leader in qualifying new suppliers for key equipment/materials to ensure all materials meet Corning’s requirements for application in Melting/Forming processes
  • Up to 30% travel may be required (mix of international and domestic)

Experiences/Education - Required

  • 0 - 2 + years of experience
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints 
  • Enthusiasm to learn new technologies and expand critical engineering skills 
  • Practical 3D CAD/Drafting experience and proficiency, SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools 
  • Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Understanding what aspects of drawings and specifications are of critical importance (Critical to Quality) 
  • Proven track record in the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts 
  • Experience in fabrication or machine shop.  Familiarity with NDT specifications/practices, CMM inspection, or other precision inspection techniques
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies and how they pertain to fabrication of equipment based on Corning drawings 
  • Understanding of material properties and how they respond to various manufacturing methodologies and techniques 
  • Ability to communicate with suppliers about any concerns they may have with designs and how these concerns could result in added cost or time delays in manufacturing 
  • Knowledge of rebuild installation procedures and SOPs as they pertain to designed equipment
  • Experience with hot material processes, such as glass melting and forming
  • Familiarity with metal and ceramic processes

The range for this position is $65,406.00 - $89,934.00assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
